International School (Thailand 2012)

Every once in a while someone asks where I spend most of my days. The short answer: at a K-12 international school as High School Counselor. Well, nothing like taking you on an online tour at the start of a new school year...

International Community School (ICS), established in 1993, is located in Bangkok Thailand -- actually in a suburb/district called Bang-NA on Soi 37. Right now ICS hosts approximately 150 staff and close to 1000 K-12 students, representing 22 countries. Students find an American system of education with a Christian worldview integrated throughout a curriculum and school that is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI).

Here’s the main entrance to the school, where staff apartments are also located along with some coffee shops and variety store.

ICS hosts three schools -- Elementary, Middle and High School -- where classrooms and offices occupy two of the five main buildings on campus. The High School and Middle School share the main building by the front gate, Elementary has its own building near the back of the property and everyone shares common buildings, including staff apartments, the PAC (Performing Arts Center) and our latest building called the ARC (Athletic Recreation Center).

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Interior courtyard for elementary kids to play and eat at the outdoor cafeteria.

MIDDLE and HIGH SCHOOL

Interior courtyard and commons area.

All hallways with lockers and doors to classrooms are outdoor, overlooking the inner courtyard.

The counseling offices are on the main level with our own sitting area for students to research colleges and other counseling resources.

Right off this area is my office with a wonderful view of greenery all year.

ARTS, RESOURCE and ATHLETIC Facilities

Outdoor and indoor fields.

Indoors in the Athletics building, complete with play areas and coffee bar.

Two outdoor pools for all ages.

I had to laugh when I walked through the parking lot and saw the sign on the basketball net where many a scrimmage game is played.
